  • Description
  • Mangrove Plants are a great addition to your saltwater tank. Mangroves are green plants that grow in saltwater environments. Mangroves will take root in sand or rocks and then grow a long green stalk and leaf out.

Mangroves can be placed anywhere in the aquarium, but are most commonly found in sumps or refugiums. Mangroves once rooted will grow rather fast. This fast growth rate will use the nutrients in your tank to grow, naturally reducing the nitrates in your system. Nitrate removal is one of the main reasons Mangroves are so popular with saltwater tank owners.

Mangroves must be kept in an open top aquarium or sump/fuge. Room is needs for the Mangrove to grow tall and leaf out. Since Mangroves grow so fast, it's important that you trim them if they start to get too tall. You must also clean up any dropped leaves, since it is bad if they were to decay in your tank.

Mangroves really don't need much care. They just need moderate lighting and good supply of nutrients in your tanks water to thrive.
