  • Description
  • The Horn Shark is a smaller and very graceful shark. Horn Sharks have a wide and blunt head and a long slender body. Horn Sharks are mostly brownish gray with dark spots.

Horn Sharks reach a maximum adult size of around 40 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 350 gallons. Horn Sharks are aggressive fish and shouldn't be kept with any fish small enough to fit into their mouths. Horn Sharks will also eat any inverts they can find. These reasons plus their large size make them bad choices for reef tanks.

Horn Sharks need a deep and soft fine sand bed in their tanks. Coarser sand will scratch their undersides and lead to infections. Horn Sharks spend most of their time on the sand bed, so this is very important to their health.

Horn Sharks are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Horn Sharks are also nocturnal and will do the bulk of their eating in the evening hours. Horn Sharks are hard to get eating in home aquariums and live foods might be required to get them used to eating in an aquarium. Once a Horn Shark is used to eating in an aquarium they are fairly hardy and will accept pieces of fresh seafood. Horn Sharks are very hard to keep in aquariums and most only be attempt by experienced aquarists or those that are experienced with keeping sharks.
