  • Description
  • The Banana Wrasse is a stunning and beautiful large wrasse. Banana Wrasses are completely yellow as compared to the males which have a lot more green on their bodies. Both sexes of Banana Wrasse have green markings on their faces.

Fully grown adult Banana Wrasses can get 12 inches or larger and require a tank that is at least 90 gallons in size. Banana Wrasses are very aggressive fish and are not suitable for reef tanks. In reef tanks, Banana Wrasses will often bother smaller fish and inverts. It is best to house Banana Wrasses in semi-aggressive to aggressive FOWLR tanks. Even in aggressive tanks, Banana Wrasses get extremely territorial and will attack any new fish introduced to the tank. For this reason, Banana Wrasses are best added to the tank last. Keeping a mated pair of Banana Wrasses will often work out well.

Banana Wrasses are strong swimmers and will jump if they are spooked. Having a tank with a tight fitting lid is a must if keeping Banana Wrasses, otherwise they will jump out of the tank. Having a lot of live rock is also good for Banana Wrasses. It will provide them with areas to hide if they feel threatened, and should house things like bristleworms and pods to eat.

Banana Wrasses are carnivores and need a diet rich in meaty foods. Foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, high quality frozen and fresh seafood, high quality flake and pellet foods are great to offer Banana Wrasse and should help them stay healthy and thrive.
