  • Description
  • The Red Head Wrasse is a beautiful and colorful wrasse. Red Head Wrasses have a mostly green body with a bright green head.

Red Head Wrasses reach a maximum size of around 4 inches and need to be kept in tanks that are at least 90 gallons in size. Red Head Wrasses are peaceful and shouldn’t bother other fish, coral or inverts in your tank. This makes the Red Head Wrasse a pretty good option for reef tanks. Some people have reported that some Red Head Wrasses have nipped at coral and clams though. So you might need to proceed with some caution if adding Red Head Wrasse to your tank.

Red Head Wrasses are strong jumpers and need to be kept in tanks with a tight fitting lid with no holes large enough for it to jump through. Red Head Wrasses also need to be kept in tanks with plenty of live rock and sand. Red Head Wrasses will pick at little inverts on the rock throughout the day between feeds and also hide in the rock work if they feel threatened. Red Head Wrasses will sometimes also burrow in the sand in the evening hours.

Red Head Wrasses are carnivores and require a diet that is rich in meaty foods. Foods such as mysis and brine shrimp, high quality meaty frozen foods and high quality flake and pellet foods will help your Red Head Wrasse grow and thrive.
